PRESS RELEASE: SLADE FAMILY DONATES MAJOR GIFT TO PWEF

Dot and Ed Slade and the Slade Family Foundation have made a major donation to the Port Washington Education Foundation (PWEF) that will be used to fund two initiatives at Schreiber High School.  The gift will support the development and implementation of a radio station at Schreiber and the transformation of a multi-purpose performing arts room at Schreiber into a “black-box” theater with new lighting and risers for performances.

“We are grateful, honored and humbled by the Slade Family contribution,” states Amy Bass, president of the PWEF.  When we created the PWEF in 2002, it was our dream to support projects that would enhance and make a difference in the educational experience of Port students.  The Slade Family gift has helped us to make this dream come true.”

Ed Slade, who has supported many community activities in Port Washington, is enthusiastic about

the Slade projects at Schreiber.  He states:  “Dot and I are especially interested in the performing arts and we’re pleased that the PWEF is using our contribution to support the radio station and black box theater at Schreiber.  We are intrigued by all the possibilities that these two projects open up for Port Washington students.” Dot Slade adds, “ We have been supporters of the PWEF from the very beginning and are glad that our gift will help the PWEF make a significant leap forward.”

The PWEF worked closely and cooperatively with Dr. Geoffrey Gordon, superintendent of schools, and the leadership of the school district in developing the concepts for the Slade projects.   In accepting the gift from the PWEF and the Slades,  Dr. Gordon remarks: “ We are increasingly looking for sources of funding beyond our school district budget.  We salute the PWEF and the Slades for their generosity and commitment.”

The PWEF is an independent, non-profit, community-based organization.  Founded in 2002, the PWEF is designed to support initiatives that are beyond the scope of the district’s budget through acquiring and distributing funds to enhance educational opportunities in the Port Washington school district.  The PWEF may be reached at (516) 767 – 2907 or through its website of www.pwef.org.
